A brief history of East Berlin Station

The train station has been known by several different names. When it first opened in 1842 it was known as Frankfurter Bahnhof, which lasted until 1852 when the Prussian state renamed it Schlesischer Bahnhof. Like many train stations in Berlin, it suffered huge bombing damage during WWII and was subsequently rebuilt. It was known as Berlin Ostbahnhof from 1950-1987 when it was renamed Berlin Hauptbahnhof. The name changed back in 1997 and it was completely rebuilt once more.
