History of the David d'Angers Gallery

Pierre-Jean David, nicknamed David d'Angers was an Angevin sculptor, draftsman and medalist who lived in the 19th century. From 1811, he began to offer his works to the city, including 3 sculptures rewarded. In 1939, the municipality decided to present the creations of this master-sculptor in the refectory of the Museum of Fine Arts. In 1980, the artist's works were transferred to the former Toussaint abbey. After the complete renovation of the abbey church Toussaint, the David D'Angers Gallery was inaugurated on May 22, 1984.
